Is Cappy Camera Waterproof? What You Need to Know Before You Shoot
When people hear that the Cappy Camera has a "Stone Paper" shell, the first question is usually: "Wait, is it paper? Will it melt if it rains?"
It is a fair question! Most paper dissolves when wet. But Cappy Camera isn't made of normal paper.
Here is the honest breakdown of how durable the Cappy Camera really is, and whether it can survive a splash.
The Short Answer: Water-Resistant, Not Waterproof
Cappy Camera is water-resistant, but not waterproof. The outer shell is made from "Stone Paper," a durable material that naturally repels water, making it safe for light rain, spills, or sweaty hands. However, the camera electronics are exposed, meaning you cannot submerge the camera in a pool or the ocean.
What is "Stone Paper"?
Unlike regular wood-pulp paper (like a notebook), Stone Paper is made from crushed mineral powder and a non-toxic resin. This makes it:
- Tear-Resistant: You can't rip it easily.
- Water-Repellant: Water beads up and rolls off the surface.
- Eco-Friendly: It requires no water or bleach to produce.
This means if you spill a drink on your Cappy Camera at a party, or if you get caught in a drizzle at a festival, the case will simply wipe clean. It won't get soggy or disintegrate like cardboard would.
The "Safe vs. Unsafe" List
To keep your camera alive for years, follow these rules:
✅ Safe (Go for it):
- Light rain or mist.
- Spilled drinks (just wipe it off immediately).
- High humidity or sweaty hands at a concert.
- Snow (as long as it doesn't melt inside the ports).
❌ Unsafe (Don't do it):
- Swimming pools (Do not take it underwater!).
- The Ocean (Saltwater kills electronics instantly).
- Heavy downpours (If water gets inside the USB-C port or SD slot, the board can short out).
What about Drops?
Because the Cappy Camera uses a lightweight board and a flexible Stone Paper shell, it is actually quite shock-resistant. Unlike heavy glass lenses that shatter when dropped, the Cappy is lightweight enough that it usually survives tumbles from a table or pocket without issues.
However, we always recommend using a Wrist Strap to keep it secure, especially on the dance floor.
The Bottom Line
Cappy Camera is built for real life. It can handle the spills, the rain, and the chaos of a good night out—just don't take it for a swim.
